Nestled within the desert city of Phoenix, Arizona is the Encanto Park and recreation area. This 200+ acre park is plush and pristine. It boasts a very different scenic atmosphere from the surrounding desert environs. In the past the park was somewhat neglected but it has since been transformed and rejuvenated. It is a desert oasis that is a breath of fresh air if you find yourself in Phoenix yearning for more natural and serene surroundings. A perfect place to kick back and relax or to spend a day with your young children enjoying all the facilities and activities available at the park.
It’s a very popular spot and like a a beach on a mid-Summer’s day, competition is fierce for prime park real estate. During the Winter facilities and services are more limited and it’s a lot quieter, however, the park remains open to explore throughout the year.
What’s great about this place is that while it’s particularly appealing for young children and family visits, there’s a host of things to do that appeal to a wider audience. The park is adjoined to two golf courses if you fancy practicing your swing. There are sports facilities with a swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts and there’s even a sand volley ball courts where you can play barefooted.
There is even the option of going fishing in the park on a lagoon that is teeming with aquatic life. Speaking of nature, you’ll find ducks, geese and more exotic birds paddling and flying around the park.
For kids there’s the Enchanted Island Amusement park which will keep your children entertained for hours on end. Access to this privately operated park is free of charge, however amusement rides do incur a charge but they are very reasonably priced.
There’s no shortage of food stalls and refreshments available where you can sample local cuisine. For those planning to bring their own there’s lots of picnic areas spread throughout the park.
Encanto Park and recreation area is free of charge for all visitors. However, boat rentals, sports facilities, fishing activities and amusements etc are not free of charge. For the most part everything is very reasonably priced and the facilities on offer are top class.
Camelback Mountain and Echo Canyon is open year round from dawn until dusk.
