The Kentuck Art Center is a combination of an art gallery, studio and museum which celebrates the arts with changing exhibits that highlight local, regional and national artists. They recently underwent renovations and the new building is a work of art its own right. This is another of Alabama’s community focused Art Centers. They welcome visitors to the center with open arms and minds.
There are two main galleries, the Museum Gallery that features artists from across the United States, and the Teer Gallery that features works by local and regional artists.
This is a golden opportunity not only to see illustrious works of art in their finished and polished state, but also works that are in progress. You can walk around the studios, meet and chat with artists as they work. Each area of the center has a varying feel, from modern to beatnik and bohemian in nature, though very unpretentious and unassuming. Every visitor is made to feel welcome and at home at the center.
You can simply take in the art and surroundings, or get down and gritty and participate in classes including painting, sculpting, pottery and more. There are studios, a gallery and and a really cool outdoor garden sculpture display with some highly imaginative pieces of work.
On the first Thursday of every month they hold an art night from 17:00 to 20:00. You can expect food, music and lots of friendly faces. Best of all its totally free of charge.
