Birmingham AL Zoo

The Birmingham Zoo is home to about a 1,000 animals from across the globe.  The zoo spans over 122 acres of land, ensuring there’s no shortage of awesome sights, rides, activities and special events for the whole family.

For those who may not be sold on the idea of covering the zoo grounds on foot, there’s a train ride that travels through the back of the animal enclosures. The train slows down for each exhibit, allowing for video and photo opportunities. The only downside is that you can’t pick and choose when and where to stop according to your interest in wildlife. While it’s an efficient way of covering the grounds, it makes for a more fleeting visit of each exhibit.

If big cats are your thing, then you’re in for a treat. The zoo recently announced the return of the Jaguar and the exhibit is now open. They are shy creatures by nature so not everyone will be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of these elusive big cats.

For the budding paleontologist the Dino Discovery exhibit is fantastic, you get to experience life-like animatronic dinosaurs that move and roar in their surroundings. Kids especially will get a kick out of it and the dino exhibit will leave a lasting impression.

Among the animals are many rare endangered species including elephant, rhino and tiger. We highly recommend supporting the zoo if you travel to or through Birmingham, they are an organization that is dedicated to the conservation of endangered animal species.

A visit to Birmingham Zoo will support their conservation efforts and it’s a guaranteed fun filled day for a family. It’s an opportunity to see rare and majestic animals in the flesh, that could one day be extinct in the wild.

The zoo has a gift shop and a number cafes. Guided tours and experiences are also available. Be sure to check out the calendar of special events.
