The Birmingham museum of art is the crown jewel of free attractions in my book. it is the largest municipal museum in the southeast United States, and one of the premier national art museums.
You’ll find items on display to suit a wide range of interests, inluding everything from fine art and archaeological artifacts to inspire young Indiana Jones wannabes. Kids and adults a like will be wowed and awed by the museum’s recent addition of Samurai material.
Aside from their staple collection there is a continual flow of new and exciting exhibitions, which will occasionaly cost money to access if they have special “blockbuster” status.
This is what is so fantastic about the museum, they keep adding new acquisitions and they regularly hold special exhitions so there’s no risk of the museum ever suffering from a degree of staleness in terms of what’s on display. It’s well worth a repeat visit as you will never cease to be amazed and surprised by the vast range of exhibits.
As far as events are concerned there’s a host of options available including arts and crafts classes for kids and families. Check out their website for more information on extra activities.
There is a cafe that serves some very tasty grub from 11:00-14:00 from Tuesday to Friday with special brunches served on Sunday occasions. A gift shop is at your disposal where you can purchase souvenirs etc, your purchases in the gift shop will help maintain the upkeep of the mueseum.
They cater for group tours and educational group visits, for more information please visit artsbma.org.
Admission and parking facilites are free of charge, with the exception of special exhibitions which will be advertised as paying events. As always we urge our readers to lend your support by making any sized donation possible. Every little helps.
