Starved Rock State Park

The park get its name from the rocky eminence that rises to125 feet. In 1862, LaSalle built Fort St. Louis here. After the murder of Robert Cavelier de La Salle the fort was closed. Surrounded by their foes, Illinois American Indians took camp on the rocks in 1869, they died from lack of food and water.
