Mohegan Reservation

"The Spirit of Mohegan lies at Shantok. It is a place where the tribe first settled with Sachem Uncas in the 17th Century; the place from which they draw Spiritual strength, and the Burial Ground where they journey to the Spirit Land. Older burials face southwest toward the origins of their People. The adjacent Village of Shantok marks the location of Eighteenth Century conflicts between the Mohegans and the neighboring Narragansett Tribe."
